Qigong

Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.

The word Qigong (Chi Kung) is made up of two Chinese words. Qi is pronounced chee and is usually translated to mean the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe. The second word, Gong, pronounced gung, means accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through steady practice. Together, Qigong (Chi Kung) means cultivating energy, it is a system practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality. Qigong is an integration of physical postures, breathing techniques, and focused intentions.

 

Qigong practices can be classified as martial, medical, or spiritual. All styles have three things in common: they all involve a posture, (whether moving or stationary), breathing techniques, and mental focus. Some practices increase the Qi; others circulate it, use it to cleanse and heal the body, store it, or emit Qi to help heal others. Practices vary from the soft internal styles such as Tai Chi; to the external, vigorous styles such as Kung Fu. However, the slow gentle movements of most Qigong forms can be easily adapted, even for the physically challenged and can be practiced by all age groups.

Qigong Healing (Private Sessions), "Medical Qigong" is a method of holistic healing that works with the body's energy ("qi" or "chi") to create wellness. Clearing the energy also improves mental health and outlook. In a Qigong Healing session, the practitioner remove blockages to qi flow that can contribute to disease. Various methods are employed, such as acupressure and "qi massage" (which is taught to the client for self-healing), as well as energy movements. $70 for one session; packages available.

Qigong Meditations Workshop—Saturday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn the basics of qigong meditation in an accessible, easy-to-understand format. Qigong is an ancient healing pracrtice from China that offers many meditation methods for health, well-being and peace of mind. You will learn simplified Embryonic Breathing and other meditations that utilize visualization to heal blocked energy pathways. Bring pillows or a yoga mat to sit comfortably on the floor — we also have folding chairs available. 
Cost: $30

Qigong for Energy—Summer Series: June 6, June 13, (no class June 20), June 27, July 4 (optional), July 11, July 18, July 25 at 11 a.m. to noon. In this series, you will learn a qigong sequence for improved energy and health. Learn about the meridians and how to strengthen them with exercise and visualization. Students of all fitness levels can be accommodated. The series is done standing but can be modified to be done in a chair if needed, so all are welcome.
Cost: 6-week series pass—$12/class x 6 classes=$72, Drop-ins at $15/person
